Final Model

enchant
regenerate
I used this mix of sketches to create the design of my building. I simplified the top sketch to create my building and rotated the bottom sketch so that the spikes poke out of the ground.

I wanted the building to exist on a ledge so that a glass box could poke out the side of the terrain. This not only allowed more light into the bottom area but also allows views and a new display room.

I wanted the spikes to almost enclose and point toward the top building. This allowed some sort of relationship or communication between the top and bottom buildings although they were not physically touching or connected.

The top of the warehouse is made of glass and one of the sides of the display room is glass. This allows the audience to not only view the works of Mountain and Moon but also witness the building process.

Stair 5 - used on bottom building (regenerate)

regenerate

I wanted this staircase to represent the word 'regenerate'. I used a spiral staircase to relate to the idea of a cycle or revolution. Each step is a triangular shape which compliments the triangular spikes on the top of the building. The triangle sides of the steps are made from one of the textured materials while the rest of the step is made from stainless steel. The cylindrical support is made from concrete, giving the entire work space an industrial and organic vibe, complimenting the works of Trent Jenson.

Textures

Texture 1 - I used this spotted texture on the sides of the triangular stairs. It darkened them and extended the contrast to the white cylinder behind.

Texture 2 - This angular texture complimented the angular skylights of the bottom building so I decided to place it on the inner sides of the building. This made sure the interior was not too plain.

I played around with different textures on the exterior of the top building.

Texture 3 - I liked the detail of this texture. From far away, it just looks like a dark material, though close up you can see the intricate lines.

Texture 1 - reaction

Texture 2 - sharp
Texture 3 - lightweight

New Sketchup model

I decided to start working on a new sketchup model to represent this sketch of 'enchant'.
